The mechanism of ethylene production by radio-induced lipid peroxidation in humans is reported. The analysis of ethylene traces emitted in the breath at atmospheric pressure by using high-resolution infrared laser photoacoustic spectroscopy is described. Experimental results of tests conducted on the breath from patients undergoing antitumor radiotherapy are presented and discussed.
