Anisotropic enhanced water diffusion in scleroglucan gel tablets

Abstract

In this paper the diffusion behaviour of water in scleroglucan gels is investigated by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). In particular, enhanced diffusion is observed in scleroglucan/borax gels. This behaviour becomes anisotropic upon scleroglucan/borax compression, with a preservation of the anomalous diffusion along the compression direction and the disappearance of the phenomenon along the perpendicular direction. Enhanced diffusion is interpreted in the framework of a solvent mediated diffusion model. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2011.
