A probabilistic procedure based on simulation is developed for the assessment of multi-span masonry railways bridges under seismic action. Each simulation comprises a non-linear time history analysis, were the vault is modelled as a beam with 2D fibre elements and the seismic action by appropriately scaled natural accelerograms. For the treatment of uncertainties, an efficient statistic approach based on a Response Surface methodology is used in which both mechanical and geometrical parameters are considered as random variables. The procedure is applied to a nine-span masonry bridge, representative of Italian railway network.
