Considerations about self-filtering unstable resonators

Abstract

New analytical expressions have been found for the mode volume, the output beam waist and radius of curvature of the Generalised Self-Filtering Unstable Resonator (GSFUR), in terms of the cavity parameters. This permits an easy comparison with the confocal SPUR, in order to choose the most appropriate resonator for a given active medium. Contrary to the general feeling, the SPUR choice results the best in term of mode volume for low (<14) absolute magnification values.
