Abstract

As part of an ongoing project aiming to evaluate the suitability of aluminide overlay coatings to protect wet-seal areas of bipolar plates in Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell (MCFC) plants, this work illustrates the preliminary results obtained in evaluating the hot corrosion resistance of recently-developed Fe aluminide alloys in Li/K carbonate melts under both oxidizing and reducing MCFC gas conditions. By means of out-of-cell tests it has been found that Fe aluminides with ∼25 wt % Al possess long term corrosion resistance to carbonate melts expecially in the oxidant environment.
