Novel resonator schemes to be tested on the ENEA compact far-infrared FEL are described in this paper. The design of a negative branch confocal unstable resonator is reported, which shows low sensitivity to angular misalignment and employs all-metal optics providing broad band output coupling. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
