Design of the local control coils at the equatorial gap of the RFX machine

Abstract

In order to reach and explore the conditions of a plasma free from stationary modes, a set of Local Control Coils placed at the outer equatorial gap of the conductive shell is proposed. These coils not only compensate the radial field at the equatorial gap, but also produce a rotating radial field sufficient for inducing the rotation of all the major plasma modes.
