The dispersion relation of a dielectric loaded waveguide in the single-slab geometry is derived in the case of a metal substrate with finite conductivity. The ohmic losses in the metal wall slow down the wave, shifting the resonance towards longer wavelengths. Tuning curves as a function of the conductivity are presented, and the effect on the performance of a Cherenkov-FEL is discussed. © 1992.
