Prospects for active waveguides in alkali fluoride films

Abstract

Low energy electron bombardment of LiF polycrystalline films gives rise to the efficient formation of laser active lattice defects emitting in the visible spectral range from green to red at room temperature and induces an increase of the real part of the refractive index in the same wavelength interval. These results combined with the use of electron lithography techniques look promising for the realization of active waveguides in alkali fluoride film based structures.
