This article shows a reliable method to determine the number and position of local perturbations in the plasma emissivity from projections. The method is based on machine learning and in particular on the approach of conformal predictors. The developed technique is an alternative to tomography in thermonuclear plasmas. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
