Numerical and experimental studies were performed to investigate the behaviour of lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) after solidification. Re-crystallization of LBE is the main phenomenon to consider; it may lead to serious over-stressing of structural materials. The conditions for the target vessel of MEGAwatt PIlot Experiment (MEGAPIE) were especially considered.
