The TRADE project: First results of the preliminary experimental program

Abstract

TRADE (TRiga Reactor Accelerator Driven Experiment) will be the demonstration of the coupling of a real spallation source with a sub-critical reactor. TRADE and its motivation are described in detail in another paper in this conference. The first experiments with the accelerator are not scheduled until around 2006 or 2007. However, an experimental program has been developed which requires a number of preliminary experiments to be performed. Specifically, we require a very well-characterized core in the unperturbed state to serve as the reference configuration. Additionally, we desire a smooth transition from the MUSE experiments to the TRADE experiments in terms of interpretation of the results. In this paper we give some of the results of our preliminary measurements.
