Time evolution of the emission band of Alq3 films in open atmosphere

The degradation of Alq3films in open atmosphere has been studied by means of photoluminescence measurements. The emission decay shows that there are four different time evolutions corresponding to various physical components or species. Moreover, the components are also characterized by well-defined emission bands, whose spectral parameters have been determined. This discovery allows the optical properties of the films to be properly understood, among which the intensity decay and the blue shift of the emission band during the degradation process itself. © 2006 Elsevier B.V.
