Vertical displacement event/disruption electromagnetic analysis for the ITER-FEAT vacuum vessel and in-vessel components

Abstract

This paper summarises the preliminary results of the electromagnetic (EM) analyses for ITER vacuum vessel and in-vessel components, such as blanket and divertor modules. Two disruption scenarios are taken into account: plasma centered disruption, and vertical displacement event (VDE). Eddy currents and forces due to VDE/disruption were calculated using the 3D shell element code TYPHOON and the 3D solid element code EMAS and ANSYS. The plasma motion and current decay used in the EM analysis has been supplied by 2D axisymmetric plasma equilibrium codes, MAXFEA. The EM loads in the blanket module are reduced by deep poloidal and radial slits. © 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
