Abstract

This paper presents a study on the so called vertical displacement events (VDEs) in elongated and diverted tokamak plasmas. The study is carried out using two numerical codes: DINA for the two-dimension (2D) and M3D for the three-dimension (3D) simulations, respectively. The DINA simulations are compared with the experimental data taken from some ASDEX-U disruptive events. A realistic (ITER relevant) equilibrium is considered for the M3D simulations. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
