Abstract

Electron-beam lithography has been used to write optical waveguides at the surface of LiF. The ion implantation can be also used to produce planar and channel waveguides in LiF crystals by choosing appropriate implantation conditions. We report, for first time, on the visualization by SNOM of the modal structure of light propagation in channel waveguides directly formed in LiF crystals by both techniques. © 2005 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
